Cyclades-PR3000 Benefits
|
| |
The
Cyclades-PR3000 is a high-performance, flexible, mid-range router that
combines the performance and flexibility of mid-range, chassis-based products
with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of integrated routers.
It offers the flexibility of a highly modular design and the high-performance
of the PowerPC dual-processor architecture. The WAN options include,
besides traditional serial and T1/E1 interfaces, and dial-up serial ports. Up
to three simultaneous high-speed WAN connections are supported.
Superior Performance
Other integrated routers normally use one single
processor to handle the interfaces and the routing protocols. That imposes
compromises in performance that limit the network throughput and generates
inefficient use of the communication infrastructure. The PR3000
uses the latest in microprocessor technology to eliminate the performance
bottlenecks and unnecessary latencies. With its dual-processor architecture (an
advanced Power PC CPU for protocols and an additional 32-bit RISC CPU
for I/O) and optimized hardware design, the PR3000 has spare raw power to
handle all the network interfaces at maximum speed. The spare
performance, flexible expansion slots and the capacity to accommodate up to 64
MB of RAM assure that the PR3000 is not only prepared for the demands of your
network today, but also ready for the increased demands of the future
Full-featured Software
The PR3000 offers a full set of software features to satisfy all
your needs. It runs the Cyclades Routing Operating System (CyROS).
This software incorporates all the internetworking expertise and experience
accumulated by Cyclades along the years. It is a proven software platform that
allows the introduction of new features and products while maintaining
stability, reliability and robustness. It also provides interoperability,
connectivity, security and consistent interfaces across the product
line.
| The PR3000
supports:
-
Up to THREE
interfaces per PR3000 unit.
-
ANY combination of
Serial WAN (SWAN) and T1/E1 interfaces.
-
ONE Z-Bus/TS
interface (64 dialup ports) on slot 1.

All The Protocols & Interfaces You
Need
The Cyclades-PR3000 supports IP and IPX. These
network protocols can be routed over PPP, Frame Relay, and X.25 links over
dial-up lines, leased lines, and switched networks. Both RIP and OSPF routing
protocols are supported. This way, the PR3000 can integrate and
consolidate your network, minimizing management and communication costs.
Terminal Server Functionality
Besides being a full-featured router, the PR3000 can also act as a
Remote Access Server with the installation of an expansion card(Z-Bus Interface
Card) and external Serial Expanders for up to 64 RS-232 dial-up ports per
PR3000 unit. Security Security is an important concern,
especially when the corporate network is connected to the Internet. Complete
support for packet and service filtering and authentication protocols such as
PAP, CHAP, RADIUS, and TACACS help to keep your network secure.
WAN Optimization & Interoperability
Features such as payload data compression, loading balance, dial-on-demand
routing, dial-backup and load backup allow efficient use of the WAN
infrastructure, minimizing communication costs and keeping network integrity.
Network Address Translation (NAT) helps you to manage IP addresses.
Because the PR3000 is standard based and because it was tested for
compatibility with equipment from all major vendors, you can rest assured that
it inter-operates and seamlessly integrates in your existing network.
Easy to Install & Effective
Performance and flexibility are normally associated with large boxes, high
cost and complexity. The PR3000, while offering unrivaled performance in
its class with all the functionality and flexibility you need, is compact,
simple and easy to configure and manage. It has a dedicated console port
for initial configuration. After the router is operational, the configuration
and management can be done locally at the console or from any point in the
network. You can use a command line file to configure the PR3000 if you
prefer, but you don't have to. A simple and intuitive menu-driven interface is
also available. Full SNMP support, telnet server, configuration
upload/download, command line parser, Network Address Translation (NAT),
flash-memory software upgrades, on-line/off-line configuration, watchdog timer,
tracing and debug functions are examples of features that makes management and
administration a breeze.

Cyclades-PR3000 Applications
|
| |
Corporate Network
The Cyclades-PR3000 can be used to link the central office and several braches
in a enterprise-wide network using point-to-point connections (leased lines,
dial-up) or switched networks (Frame-relay or X.25, for example). Small- to
medium-sized companies can even use the PR3000 as the main backbone router.

Internet Service Provider
The
Cyclades-PR3000Õs flexibility, reliability and cost-effectiveness are
ideal for ISPs connecting remote Point-of-Presence or corporate customers.
Different combinations of T1/E1 and dial-up lines are supported in one box.
Mediium and small ISPs using T1/E1 up-link connections to the Internet can also
use the Cyclades-PR3000 as the main router.
